Welcome to my personal web page for the Technology For Africa project, an educational outreach project of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) at the College of Charleston. I am a member of the SIFE team (pictured on the right) that is organizing this project. Our mission is to help promote free enterprise and economic development in an underprivileged region of the world. In March we will travel to Cameroon Africa to set up, up to three computer labs and train local students how to use computer technology for education and communication.
The project was inspired by a recent United Nations report in which 60 underprivileged nations were asked what they needed to alleviate poverty. Their response was, “access to information and technology, not charity.” Cameroon has less than one percent of the world’s computers.
We are trying to raise enough money to purchase 40 computers, establish the computer labs and cover travel expenses. Our time creating the labs and training the students will be 100% volunteer. We are working with faculty advisors to enlist corporate support and secure individual donations.
I have created this site to help raise money for the Technology For Africa project. Your small donation could make a big difference. For example, each computer will cost $500, so if 50 people donate $10, we will have enough to buy one computer. Please consider supporting this project.
